Methotrexate delivered through the skin for vitiligo

Official title: Methotrexate Iontophoresis Versus Methotrexate 1% Gel on Depigmentation in Vitiligo Patients

Pharos University in Alexandria plans to enroll about 30 participants. Methotrexate reduces immune activity and is being delivered through or into the skin in this study. Researchers hope it will calm the attack on melanocytes and improve repigmentation. Methotrexate is approved for several cancers and inflammatory diseases; vitiligo would be a new use. Possible effects include skin irritation, mouth sores, nausea, liver problems, low blood counts, and infections. People ages 18 to 40 may qualify. Recruitment has not started, and no locations are listed yet.
