World Vitiligo Day 2026: Halfway Through and Still Moving

World Vitiligo Day 2026 in Chandigarh is halfway done. These are quick backstage notes from WVD HQ — not the final report, just a glimpse behind the curtain while the engine is still hot and slightly smoking.

World Vitiligo Day 2026 in Chandigarh is halfway done — and yes, we're still standing.

These aren't polished proceedings. Think of them as raw backstage notes from WVD HQ while the engine is still hot and slightly smoking.

The full report will follow once everyone has had a chance to catch their breath.

The universe showed up with its full sense of humor.

Hours before opening, TikTok locked our account for “review.” It's still frozen. One year ago, #WVD and #WorldVitiligoDay videos generated a combined 55 million views on the same platform in a single day. Irony, apparently, is now a feature.

That wasn't the only surprise. Two keynote speakers were denied visas. Several others barely cleared the e-visa application process in time. No blame here — international paperwork is rarely poetry, and this particular process proved technically challenging for quite a few participants.

And yes, I also managed to forget my formal suit.

Fortunately, India has one of the world's richest textile industries and an endless selection of everything. What could have become a genuine problem quickly turned into an enjoyable shopping expedition. As engineers like to say, if a problem can be solved with extra money, it's not really a problem.

Behind the scenes, countless volunteers and members of the local organizing team have been working around the clock. Printing, logistics, transportation, and setting up exhibition booths in Chandigarh's 40°C+ heat isn't always a straightforward process.

Thankfully, the monsoon has stayed away so far — because apparently even chaos has its limits.

But the work is happening.

During the first two days, around 300 patients and 450 dermatologists, researchers, and healthcare professionals came through the venue.

Patient Day on June 25 concluded with a powerful fashion show celebrating confidence, individuality, and the simple freedom of not having to hide your skin.

Today's surgical workshop shattered expectations, attracting 205 in-person participants — more than double the original target — along with another 2,600 registered viewers following the sessions live online.

This is what World Vitiligo Day really is: patients, physicians, researchers, volunteers, industry partners, and countless people quietly solving problems so the movement keeps moving forward.

Progress doesn't wait for perfect conditions.

Two more days to go. Onward.
